The Future Sound of London – Papua New Guinea (Dub Mix)

Released on:
Papua New Guinea (1992)
Papua New Guinea (1996)
Accelerator / Papua New Guinea Mix Anthology

Runtime: 1:20

Little more than a brief interlude, the ‘Dub Mix’ of ‘Papua New Guinea‘ starts with the main vocal sample, before moving into – unsurprisingly – dub territory, with sampled bass and drums. Where many acts would have used this as an opportunity to provide a full-length dub workout for chill-out rooms of the time, Brian and Garry, ever idiosyncratic, cut the beat after 30 seconds and closed out the track with a bunch of samples and sounds. Running to just over a minute in length, it feels the least essential of all the ‘Papua’ remixes, and yet it was included on CD and 12″ releases in 1992, the US 1996 release and even the 2001 expanded reissue of Accelerator. Clearly the band have some fondness for the short track.
