The Future Sound of London – Interstat

Released on:
Lifeforms

Runtime: 0:55

A brief environment given its own index and title, ‘Interstat’ is one of the shortest tracks in the FSOL canon (and by far the shortest released in the ’90s). A woman announces the title, followed by growling synths, utterly strange slowed down samples, and unsettling floaty synth chords. And then it’s all over. It’s unusually sci-fi feeling, with less of the organic, natural feel of Lifeforms, reminding us that the album is thematically more complex than often assumed. Unusually, the track acting as an environment, it never actually appeared on a transmission. The track is similar to the unreleased Humanoid track ‘Intelstat’, suggesting the two may share a vocal sample.
