The Future Sound of London – We Have Explosive (Oil Dub)

Released on:
We Have Explosive

Runtime: 6:23

Surprisingly not actually a dub remix of ‘We Have Explosive‘, Leon Mar’s second Oil remix of the track is nevertheless a deep track, a chugging, heavily chopped up breakbeat getting things started, before trumpets and harmonicas are added, coated in cavernous reverb. Vocals and guitars come over from the original, although the huge washes of reverb stop it from being simply another breakbeat version of the track; funky bass lines are added and mangled in a similar manner to the drums. And just when you’re wondering how this can be carried off for the full six minutes, the plug is pulled and the whole thing is dropped to half tempo. The slower speed, combined with all the samples takes the track into quite a menacing place, a swamp of wailing instrumentation and grinding drums. The whole thing reverts to normal speed for the closing run. An unusual but very effective remix.
