The Future Sound of London – We Have Explosive (Oil Funk Remix)

Released on:
We Have Explosive

Runtime: 3:37

Brian and Garry stumbled across Noel Ram, aka Leon Mar, aka Oil as his RAM studio was in the same block as Earthbeat. The story goes that his funky Oil project felt so fresh after the rigid sounds of Dead Cities that he played a huge part in the band’s change of sound starting in 1997. ‘We Have Explosive‘ being the first release of the year, they also invited him to provide a couple of remixes in his groove-driven style. The funk remix is just that: funky slap bass, wah-wah guitar, groovy breakbeats, squelching synths, only the title vocals and a brief appearance of the ‘Part 4‘ synth pad being ported over from the original. I used to hate this remix, it being so utterly lacking in atmosphere or ambience in any sense at all. Not really what I listened to FSOL for. Over the years, of course, my taste has developed somewhat and I’ve grown to enjoy it as three minutes of fun.
