Humanoid – Stakker Humanoid (Krafty Kuts Mix)

Released on:
Stakker Humanoid 2001

Runtime: 6:41

Originally released as a bootleg white label in 2000, Kraft Kuts reworked his remix for the 2001 reissue of ‘Stakker Humanoid‘. Krafty Kuts, the musical alias of Brighton’s Martin Reeve, worked within the early ’00s UK breaks scene, at a time when artists were incorporating more electro sounds into the genre; this sound is evident throughout his remix, which apes complex breakbeats but is entirely programmed, often using the thinner sounds most well known for their use in electro. The 303 line appears to have been made from scratch, while a few samples from the original – most notably the “humanoid” and “intruder alert!” Berzerk speech – appear throughout. The “humanoid” voice acts as a repeated refrain throughout the track, pitched up and down to create a counter melody to the track’s main acid line. This era of breaks music isn’t to my taste at all, but the track is a very accomplished take and the acid lines fit comfortably within the rest of the track.
