Amorphous Androgynous – The Isness

Released on:
The Isness
The Isness & The Otherness

Runtime: 3:00

Originally titled ‘Low Tide on the Sea of Flesh’, ‘The Isness’ is a mellow, almost ambient track that would feel as much at home on a FSOL album as an Amorphous one. An organ and synth loop plays throughout, while Baluji Shrivastav’s sitar is chopped, reassembled and looped. Starting in a major key, the Cabbage Orchestra’s dramatic strings move the mood into more dramatic territory. An organ solo plays in the second half, and the track is completed with some sea shore field recordings. It’s a brief, unassuming piece that maybe gets a little forgotten in context of the whole album; upon relistening to the track for this entry, I realised just how beautiful it is, especially the strings, and have decided to make an effort to listen to it more in the future. As the only track completely unique to the final mix of the album – a version I rarely listen to – it’s always been off my radar.
