Blackhill Transmitter – Four

Another year, another Blackhill Transmitter EP. Another way of titling. This was becoming a pattern. “The fourth EP from Blackhill Transmitter. Recorded in the first week of 2016 – Produced by Yage. Music Concrete / Gothic Granular Kraut”.

I do enjoy a good Blackhill Transmitter record, and this is probably as good as they come. The most rhythmic and melodic of the four EPs, it continues the bleak, haunting mood of the series and the location of its titular transmitter. Interestingly, this time the artwork doesn’t feature the structure itself, instead a grainy collage of… is that half a person? It’s hard to tell. Unsurprisingly, four of the five tracks ended up on the album. The credits reveal a couple of intriguing things: the EP was recorded in the space of a few days, the same month as it was released, and further emphasis on the use of EMS instruments.

Release date: 27th January 2016.
