Humanoid – Dream

Released on:
Global

Runtime: 4:50

‘Dream’ is the point Global falls apart. After Dougans had departed from the project, Westside Records’ Morgan Khan brought in producer Peter Black to complete the rest of the album. While this included adding more generic elements to songs like ‘Tonight‘, it also involved writing and recording new songs. One of these was ‘Dream’.

The song is a mid-tempo, generic vocal house song. An uncredited male singer tells an ex-lover that he’ll only let her use him “in your dreams,” hence the title. There’s some reasonable piano soloing, but otherwise the song is lacking in any excitement or dynamics, the backing track being the same loops and synth presets throughout with next-to-no variation. For a long time, ‘Dream’ was my most hated track Dougans had ever been involved in. Discovering he wasn’t involved at all was quite a relief, to say the least.
