Intelligent Communication – Critical Ebb

Released on:
Principles of Motion

Runtime: 4:56

Principles of Motion closes on its warmest and mellowest track, led by a laid back bongo line and jazzy, major key synths. Unlike side A’s similar ‘Open Loop’, there’s no diversion into melancholia halfway through, with the uplifting vibe running throughout. It’s arguably the weakest of the EP’s four tracks for this – the lack of any real drama in the melodies makes it stand out less – but it’s still a superb piece in its own right.

I remember the first time I listened to Principles of Motion, and I was really blown away. Even as someone who has always enjoyed most of their rave-oriented early material, the four tracks on this EP were clearly very special. I suppose that’s the message I want to close this entry on: not “here’s another melodic techno track by Intelligent Communication,” but “Brian and Garry have created some incredible, timeless music over the years, and this is a superb example of it.”
