Amorphous Androgynous – Liquid Insects

‘Liquid Insects’, the only single from Tales of Ephidrina, is an unusual release, largely because it was only made available in the US. That makes, to my knowledge, the B-side ‘Sky-Scraper’ the only FSOL track never to be released in the UK. Why the 12″ wasn’t released by Virgin remains unknown.

The A-side features an edit of ‘Liquid Insects’, lacking most of the ’13th Century Kitichi’ opening environments and the closing ‘Arizona’ environment, but otherwise the same version as the album. The B-side also features album track ‘Mountain Goat’, with simple fade-in and fade-out at each end. The aforementioned ‘Sky-Scraper’ remains exclusive to the release, and thus one of the most obscure tracks in the band’s catalogue. The 12″ was released as clear and black vinyl, the black apparently the less common of the two. A white label promo was also released. No art on the sleeve, just a generic Astralwerks label. The B-side label art is almost certainly by Buggy, albeit uncredited, including the EBV logo. The A-side is a simple generic Astralwerks label. Unusually, the release has a Caroline Records catalogue number: Caroline was briefly the parent label of Astralwerks at the very start of its existence.
