The Future Sound of London – Papua New Guinea (Mellow Magic Maze Mix)

Released on:
Accelerator / Papua New Guinea Mix Anthology

Runtime: 5:28

The only fully exclusive track on the 2CD reissue of Accelerator, this mix by Air-associated French group Mellow was once considered to even be a FSOL mix under alias, especially with talk of the forthcoming Mello Hippo Disco Show doing rounds within the fanbase. It’s another track that blends ’60s psychedelic sounds with electronica, no doubt hand-picked by the band to fit in with their new sound. Analogue synths, electric and acoustic guitars, organs and funky electric piano, it’s a fun homage to the ’60s sound. The use of the original track’s breakbeats makes it feel a little more like one of the band’s own remixes from 1992, which is where the initial FSOL remix rumours originated. The track sits comfortably alongside the Blue States and Simian mixes – both literally and stylistically – to start the disc with another reminder of the new direction the group were taking at the time.
