Amorphous Androgynous – The Otherness

With a gradually raising of awareness of the Amorphous project, even the US got an Amorphous Androgynous release in 2004: the band were so heavily unsatisfied with the way Hypnotic treated The Isness – badly promoted, no reference to Amorphous Androgynous, the complete mispress debacle – that Fullfill licensed The Otherness as a standalone release to Psychobaby. Not the most obvious home for either FSOL or Amorphous, admittedly, with a catalogue largely consisting of original era goth and synthpop musicians like Love and Rockets, Gary Numan and Bauhaus’s Daniel Ash. Still, with The Isness exclusively distributed by Hypnotic, the release did at least give US fans to buy the second disc of the UK’s The Isness & The Otherness double pack. With a cover stating, simply, Amorphous Androgynous, the band were no doubt more satisfied, although a spine and sticker stating ‘Future Sound of London Present…” were still present. A simple four page booklet rounds out a fairly simple package, but nevertheless one of some use to American fans. Interestingly, the album was often imported into the UK, and I picked up a relatively cheap copy in HMV over here.

At least one pressing of the CD contains the final mix of The Isness instead of The Otherness. Because, y’know, a release of this era’s material couldn’t go without at least one major fuckup.
